Apple is just weeks away from unveiling the first touchscreen MacBook, the redesigned iPad mini and other hardware updates.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark GurmanApple is reportedly set to unveil its long-awaited touchscreen laptop on or around October 27th. This would be a significant change for a company that has traditionally kept touchscreens exclusive to its iPads.
Potentially dubbed the MacBook Ultra, the new laptop is expected to feature an interface that adapts to whether users interact with each other via a touchscreen or a standard keyboard and trackpad. This gives the MacBook a more tablet-like experience without sacrificing the traditional laptop design.
In terms of performance, the touchscreen MacBook uses Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips instead of the newer M6 processor. According to previous reports, the Pro and Max versions of the M6 are not yet expected. However, Apple has not confirmed the specifications.
The MacBook isn’t the only device reportedly getting noticed. Apple is also expected to introduce a redesigned iPad mini with an OLED display, replacing the LCD panel found on the current model. The move could bring deeper blacks, better contrast and a more premium visual experience on Apple’s smallest tablet.
Meanwhile, the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac are said to be getting minor updates. Both are expected to get the M6 chip. This would be an improvement over the current M5 MacBook Pro and M4 iMac.
The potential announcements add to an already busy year for Apple following the summer launch of its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo. According to the news, the company is also preparing to introduce new smart home devices on October 13.
Nothing is official yet, and Gurman’s suggested October 27 date is still subject to change. However, if the reports are accurate, Apple could be gearing up for one of the more interesting MacBook updates in years.
