Price and availability
The iPhone 18 Pro is currently available for purchase with a starting price of £1,199/$1,199 for the 256GB model. You can choose from four colors: black, silver, glacier and burgundy.
Since the iPhone 14 Pro was released in 2022, it’s no surprise that it can no longer be purchased directly from Apple. However, you can find refurbished units on third party websites for between £300 and £400 depending on condition.
The iPhone 18 Pro runs on Apple’s most powerful chip, the A20 Pro
One of the biggest differences between the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro is under the hood. While the iPhone 18 Pro runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chip, touted as the brand’s fastest ever, the iPhone 14 Pro is powered by the four-year-old A16 Pro.
We haven’t yet reviewed the A20 Pro chip, but Apple says it allows multitasking, gaming and AI tools to run impressively fast and smoothly without lag.

That’s not to say the iPhone 14 Pro’s A16 chip isn’t impressive. During our time with the phone, we found that it can comfortably play any Apple Arcade game and can even handle video export and editing. In fact, we’ve come to the conclusion that “there’s almost too much power here.”
Apple Intelligence is not available on iPhone 14 Pro
Based on the above, while the iPhone 18 Pro’s A20 Pro chip allows Apple Intelligence to run, the iPhone 14 Pro’s A16 does not.
While we don’t recommend buying an iPhone just for Apple Intelligence, as it still feels like an afterthought and many of its features are likely to remain unused, there’s no denying that the lack of toolset makes the iPhone 14 Pro look old.

That said, while Apple doesn’t publicly disclose how many years of software support iPhones will receive, we can guess that the iPhone 14 Pro will likely have around three more years of updates. This is based on the assumption that Apple gives its iPhones seven years of updates – and that Apple recently ended support for the 2019 iPhone X series.
The iPhone 18 Pro has Pro camera controls and variable aperture
The iPhone 18 Pro is equipped with three rear cameras, controlled by a 48 MP variable aperture fusion main lens. Apple says it’s its most advanced camera ever, and it promises excellent performance in both bright and low light, as it can let in more or less light to suit the shooting conditions.

Apple’s Pro controls return to the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, meaning you can customize your shooting experience. For example, you can manually set the aperture, shutter speed, or even customize shooting styles.
Although the iPhone 14 Pro also has three rear lenses, albeit with different resolutions, including a 48 MP main lens, a 12 MP ultra-wide angle and a 12 MP telephoto lens. Overall, we found the iPhone 14 Pro to take excellent shots regardless of the lighting conditions, and it’s actually one of the best camera phones of its time.

However, it lacks the Pro controls that the iPhone 18 Pro comes with. In addition, while the iPhone 18 Pro can shoot up to 4K@120fps, the iPhone 14 Pro can shoot at a maximum of 4K@60fps. Finally, the iPhone 18 Pro can reach 8x zoom, while the iPhone 14 Pro reaches 3x.
The iPhone 18 Pro display is slightly larger
It seems that the age of small phones like the iPhone 13 Mini is indeed over, as the iPhone 18 Pro is 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 14 Pro is 6.1 inches. That said, both devices are packed with plenty of premium screen technology, including ProMotion, always-on display and Dynamic Island.

iPhone 18 Pro has USB-C charging
Another feature that ages the iPhone 14 Pro is its charging port. While all other iPhones since the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 15 series have USB-C ports, the iPhone 14 Pro still uses Apple’s old Lightning port.
Early judgment
The iPhone 18 Pro looks like a major upgrade over the iPhone 14 Pro, thanks to the powerful A20 Pro chip, a triple 48MP camera setup and the inclusion of Apple Intelligence. If you want the most powerful iPhone, the 18 Pro is an easy recommendation.
However, this does not mean that the iPhone 14 Pro is a bad choice. In fact, its chip is still quite powerful, the camera setup is solid and the size is decent – especially if you prefer smaller devices.
