Mafia III now runs at 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via a free update for existing owners.
2K Games released the current-gen update without prior notice, and players who own the PS4 or Xbox One version can claim it at no extra cost from the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store on their newer console.
The update comes close to the game’s tenth anniversary since the game first arrived on PS4 and Xbox One in October 2016 with a 30fps target, which the update now doubles in addition to other technical improvements.
The definitive edition collects the contents of the story
In addition to the update, 2K has released Mafia III: Definitive Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and the bundle combines the base game with the Faster, Baby!, Stones Unturned, and Sign of the Times story expansions.
These three expansions sit alongside the Family Kick-Back Pack and the Judge, Jury & Executioner Weapons Pack, which form a pack that brings together the game’s story and bonus content into a single current-gen edition.
The same edition is also included in the Mafia: The Omerta Collection, a recently released compilation that pairs Mafia III with the rest of the series Mafia, Mafia II, and last year’s Mafia: The Old Country.
This collection spans the entire mainline series, and Hangar 13 has led the development of every entry since the third game, including the 2020 Definitive Edition remake, which rebuilt the original 2002 release from the ground up.
PC repairs and limited time discount
PC gamers will also benefit from the anniversary, as the Steam version of the game has received a major patch that includes a number of fixes, technical improvements, and quality of life changes.
The 60fps update is available now on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S for existing PS4 and Xbox One owners, while new players can purchase Mafia III at an 80% discount in digital storefronts, although 2K did not share an expiration date for the discount.
