Gurman says iPhone Duo buyers will get a special surprise in US Apple stores

According to a Bloomberg report, Mark Gurman, iPhone Duo buyers who bought their device at an Apple Store in the United States will get a bit of a surprise when they open it for the first time. Here are the details.

A cool surprise in store for shoppers in the store

When Apple launches the iPhone Duo on October 23, some customers who buy the device at an Apple Store in the US will be able to have their own initial settings screen with their name on it.

According to Gurman, “Apple retail stores will have a device boot customization system,” allowing the iPhone Duo to display a greeting with their name when it’s first turned on. Gurman says the feature will be exclusive to the iPhone Duo, and will support both English and Spanish.

It’s unclear how Apple will implement the feature, or whether it will rely on Presto, the system Apple Stores already use to wirelessly update iPhones without removing them from their boxes.

First reported by Gurman in 2023, Presto allows Apple retail employees to open an iPhone, install a software update, and turn it off again, all while the device remains sealed in its packaging.

Back to the iPhone Duo, it will be available for pre-order starting Friday, October 16, with shipping and in-store availability starting October 23.

Apple recently announced that customers will be able to pre-order the iPhone Duo starting October 12th, and you can read more about it here.
