Google’s latest Pixel update could be the last for the Pixel 6, despite the phone still being listed as a supported device. The October 2026 security patch is now rolling out, but Google’s current support information leaves some doubt as to what to do next.
The October update is available for Pixel phones running Android 17, which covers everything from the Pixel 6 series to the new Pixel 11 line. According to Google, the rollout will happen in stages over the next week, so it may not appear on all devices immediately.
This makes the inclusion of the Pixel 6 particularly interesting. Google originally promised five years of OS and security updates for the Pixel 6 series, and the October 2026 patch arrives at the end of that window. So while the Pixel 6 is technically still getting this month’s update, it may be coming to the end of the road.
For anyone still using one, the October patch itself is fairly routine. Google fixed a bug that could prevent the virtual keyboard from appearing when using search fields, and a bug that could cause audio noise or distortion in ringtones during some VoIP calls.
There’s also a camera-related fix that prevents photos and videos from sometimes being saved in the wrong orientation.
In addition to these changes, the October 1st Android security patch fixes 28 vulnerabilities, while Google’s Pixel security bulletin lists six more Pixel-specific fixes.
The update follows last month’s Android 17 QPR1 release, which brought an updated Pixel VIP widget, wider UI changes, better screen capture, and smoother animations.
If you have a Pixel 6 phone, you can check for the update by going to Settings > System > Software Updates > System Update. Depending on your carrier and location, it may take a little longer to appear.
So far, Google has not specifically stated that October will be the last update for the Pixel 6. But with the phone now nearing the end of its promised support period, this could quietly be its last major stop.
