Roberts Radio’s new Revere series arrives during the CD renaissance

Don’t quite call it a comeback, because it never really left, but CD sales have been on the rise for the past few years, and Roberts Radio wants to join the revival with the introduction of the Revere Series, a three-stereo system that combines CD, radio, Bluetooth and streaming playback.

And Roberts liked the integration of DAB, DAB+ and FM radio with Bluetooth streaming in all three models.

Each unit is housed in a hand-built, acoustically tuned wooden cabinet covered in premium black leather, a construction approach more commonly found in high-end hi-fi speakers than compact multi-function systems.

Tuning spans multiple EQ presets in addition to a customizable My EQ setting, giving listeners more control over tonal balance than many entry-level multi-function systems typically allow, with Roberts focusing on providing more personalized sound control across the range.

Delving into the lineup itself, the entry-level Revere 100 pairs twin 2.25-inch stereo drivers with a 5.25-inch downward-firing passive bass radiator, plus 20 presets, dual alarms, and a snooze switch, perfect for spaces as compact as the kitchen counter or home office.

With a built-in CD player, USB playback and device charging, as well as a remote control and larger twin 3-inch drivers, the Revere 300 also has a place in the living room with rear-ported bass for richer output.

At the top of the range, the Revere 500 connects to Wi-Fi or Ethernet and adds internet radio, lossless Spotify Connect and built-in Deezer, all controlled via Roberts’ Oktiv app.

Comprised of two 2.5-inch full-range drivers and two 3.5-inch woofers, its four-driver speaker system works with four Location Sound Profiles that automatically adjust output to a wall, corner, bookshelf or open space.

The focus on a true listening environment echoes the comments of Roberts CEO Owen Watters, who described the launch as a deliberate balancing act, saying, “Revere brings together two things that don’t need to be at odds: the nature and ritual of physical listening and the convenience of modern technology.”

This combination of heritage and modern connectivity is fitting for a company that has been manufacturing radios in the UK since 1932 and has held several royal warrants since 1955 to supply receivers to royal households. It is this history that the Revere product line extends rather than departs from.

The Revere range will be available on the Roberts website and selected retailers from Thursday 24 September, with the Revere 100 priced at £249.99, the Revere 300 at £399.99 and the flagship Revere 500 at £599.99.
