Resume
The 6th generation Kindle Paperwhite has been repurposed as a sleek e-ink desk assistant with a to-do list, calendar, and Pomodoro timer.
It can act like a Stream Deck to manage applications; the main calendar screen shows meetings and can be joined by tapping.
The source code will be released soon; it’s being cleaned up so others can turn old Kindles into assistants.
When Amazon announced that it would support older Kindle models, people considered using third-party tools to put books on them. However, over time, people have found that despite their age, these devices still produce amazing e-ink displays when jailbroken. Such is the case with a project that turns the 6th generation Kindle Paperwhite into a desk assistant, showing just how capable the 2010 devices are.

Source code is on the way and hopefully coming soon
On the Eink subreddit, user Witespace posted a video showing what he’s been doing with the 2013 6th generation Kindle Paperwhite. You can’t tell it’s old by the video; Witespace uses it as a streaming deck by tapping icons on the screen to move between apps on your PC, and it’s very smooth.
That’s not all he can do. He can act as a personal organizer:
“The home screen is my to-do list. I can check things off, pin what I’m working on, and start a Pomodoro timer that takes up the entire screen. When I finish a task, the next one slides by itself, so I don’t have to think about what’s next. There’s also a calendar that shows what’s coming up, and lets me join my meeting five minutes before.”
The bad news is that the source code hasn’t been released yet. The good news is that it’s definitely not a “when” it’s coming, it’s an “if.” Witespace is currently cleaning up the code for others to use, so keep an eye on their project page for updates on when you too can turn your Kindle into your little personal assistant.
