TL; DR

  • Earlier this year, Android Auto’s cellular signal bars disappeared.
  • Google is currently addressing this issue.
  • The fix is not yet widely available.

If you want to see how strong your cellular signal is while driving, you can look at the signal bar icon in Android Auto. Or at least it was before the icon disappeared earlier this year. While this bug has been frustrating for many Android Auto users for months, there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been just over six months since the initial reports. However, in recent weeks, some users have reported that the signal bars have returned after updating to Android Auto v17.8. The only problem was that Android Auto v17.8 was beta at the time.

If you’ve been waiting for the fix to hit the regular feed, you don’t have to wait much longer. Android Authority alum and current Google employee Mishaal Rahman The company has revealed that it is currently rolling out a fix for the bug:

We are aware of reports of no cellular signal and are currently releasing a fix to resolve this issue!

While this is great news, there is a small caveat. The fix is not yet widely available. As a result, it may take some time for the update to reach your device. According to Rahman, if you want a quick fix, you might want to join the Android Auto beta program.
