Add Android Authority to Google:

TL; DR

  • Google allows you to use live code apps in its AI Studio program and later upload them to your devices or send them through the Play Console for general access.
  • Now the Play Store is working on a new “Your Creations” where users can find AI Studio creations.
  • It’s not yet clear what this shift will mean for broader access to AI Studio apps from other people.

For all the pushback you might hear about vibcoding, we can’t deny that it has the potential to do very well and can really lower the bar of entry to what it takes to build your first app impressively. The Google Play Store is where we go to learn about, download, and install Android apps, so it looks like Google is considering creating a dedicated space for AI Studio apps. Looking at version 53.2.23-34 of the Play Store for Android, we can see Google’s first work on creating a new “Your Creations” option for the app’s “Manage apps and device” screen.

As you can see, we are looking for a niche for custom AI web-coded apps. Currently, tapping the “Try it now” button opens a browser and takes you to the mobile AI Studio site — we’ll see this change for Gemini once Google finishes rolling out AI Studio there, as promised.

Basically, we’d like to know what changes this could mean when Google plans to release these AI Studio apps.

right now, Publish AI Studio apps to the Play Store requires registration and official testing. Perhaps this new What You’ve Made screen will serve as a middle ground between this and simply uploading code, offering a polished interface for keeping track of what you’ve created.

AI Studio has already launched a direct connection to the Play Store, but this is not yet available:

What exactly will it look like? The “share with all” language seems to indicate that these apps can be accessed by other users, but it’s still unclear what that means in terms of logging and testing. Google of course like It’s worth mentioning here as a unique alternative to regular publishing via the Play Console, but the devil may be in the details.

For now, it may be too early to reveal these very important features, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for future Play Store updates, hoping to hear more about Google’s plans here.
